How to: Export/Backup OneNote Notebooks from OneDrive
Modified on: Wed, Nov 23 2022 10:45 AMThis method will walk you through changing the "sync location" of the Notebook. The "sync location" is where the notebook and its contents are saved. If you have created a notebook and used your DMU licensed OneDrive account, you may want to change where the Notebook is saved for backup purposes.
This will walk you through using the OneNote 2016 Desktop version of OneNote for Windows. You can download that version here: https://onenote.com/download
IMPORTANT: There is currently no way to export notebooks from OneDrive using the Mac or App versions of OneNote.
1. Open OneNote
2. Open all Notebooks you wish to export
3. Ensure all Notebooks have completed their sync
4. Click File and find the Notebook you wish to export
5. Click Settings
6. Click Properties
7. Click Change Location
8. Select where you want the Notebook to sync (save)
9. Click OK
10. Click OK
11. OneNote will now copy the contents to the new location
If you receive an error about some content may not be synced; Cancel the action and try syncing the Notebook again.
You can repeat the steps as needed for each Notebook.
