Outlook - Unable to Open Links to Files on Mapped Drives (W:)

Modified on: Wed, Jul 19 2023 3:44 PM

Reported behavior:

You open an email that has a link to a file that is located on your W: drive (DepartmentDrives).  When you click the link to open the file, you get an error message from Windows stating "Something unexpected has gone wrong when opening this URL."

Solution:  Add *.dmu.edu to your Trusted Sites in Internet Options.

1. Open the Windows START menu

2. Type Internet Options and press Enter

3. Click the Security tab > Trusted sites > and click the Sites button

4.  Type *.dmu.edu in website box > Uncheck "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in the this zone > Click Add

5. Click Close > Ok

Now when you click the link to open a file you get a warning about a potential security concern.  This is normal.

6. Verify the file name, path, etc and click Yes.
