Application Overview: Poll Everywhere
Poll Everywhere is a real-time polling tool to gather feedback during classes and presentations. It can be used as a standalone platform or embedded into PowerPoint presentations. Students or participants can respond from a laptop, phone, tablet, or desktop computer. All DMU faculty, staff, and students can access Poll Everywhere through single sign-on using your DMU credentials. Faculty and staff can create an unlimited number of Poll Everywhere activities. Students cannot create activities, but some presenters may require you to register or log in prior to participating in activities. Troubleshoot Missing Poll Everywhere PowerPoint Add-In
Sometimes the Poll Everywhere add-in for PowerPoint doesn't load correctly on Windows computers. If you don't see it when you open PowerPoint, follow these steps to troubleshoot: From the PowerPoint desktop application, go to File > Options. [Note: On a small screen, you may need to select File > More... > Options.] Select the Add-ins option from the left side. At the bottom next to Manage: COM Add-ins, click the Go... button. Force Autofit for Scaling Issues with Poll Everywhere PowerPoint Add-In
With version 4.2.0 of the Windows PowerPoint add-in, Poll Everywhere released a partial fix for a scaling issue that can result in your Poll Everywhere activities appearing too large and therefore getting cut off (such as in the screenshot below). The issue only happens when the scaling settings on your primary monitor do not match those of a secondary presentation monitor, which is uncommon. The new version added a "force autofit" setting to resize content appropriately in the most common use case--with 1920x1080p resolution monitors and when the primary monitor is set to 150% scaling and the presentation monitor is set to 100% scaling. Resolution and scaling settings can be found under display settings. If you encounter this scaling issue, follow the steps below to enable the "force autofit" setting for the Poll Everywhere PowerPoint add-in on Windows computers. Open PowerPoint and go to the "Poll Everywhere" tab. Select "Settings" and then "Display". A pop-up window labeled "Autofit Settings" will appear. Check the box for "Enable Force Autofit" and click "Save". Close out of PowerPoint and then reopen your presentation to finish applying the changes. CAUTION: The changes will not take effect until you restart PowerPoint. For additional details, see Poll Everywhere's support article. Or contact the Solutions Hub if you need additional assistance.

Workarounds for Poll Everywhere Scaling Issues
When the scaling settings are different across multiple connected displays, you may experience issues with the Poll Everywhere PowerPoint add-in in which activities appear either too large or too small. For example, see the screenshots below. Poll Everywhere has released a fix for the most common resolution and scaling differences; see this article to learn more. If the displays are a different resolution or use different scaling settings, such as when connecting your laptop via HDMI in our meeting rooms, this fix may not work for you. In that case, see the options below for workarounds. Duplicate Your Display If you don't need presenter view (for notes, etc.), the easiest solution is to duplicate your display, rather than extend. Click the Notification Center icon from the bottom-right of your primary display. Select the "Project" option. [If you don't see it, you may first need to choose "Expand".] Select "Duplicate" and the changes will be automatically applied. Both/all of your displays will show identical content. Adjust Scaling Settings Alternatively, if you need your PowerPoint presenter notes, you can adjust the scaling settings so they are the same across both/all displays. Click the Windows start icon and search for "display". Select either "Change the resolution of the display" or "Duplicate or extend to a connected display" (both will take you to the same place). Scroll to the top of the display settings and select the first display. Then scroll down and set the scaling percentage to 150% (where it says "Change the size of text, apps, and other items"). Repeat for all displays. [Note: If you find that 150% scaling appears too large, you can try 100% scaling instead, but be consistent across all displays.] If PowerPoint is already open, close out of PowerPoint and reopen it. If presenting from the DMU meeting rooms via HDMI, changing the scaling will result in small font size. To counter this: Log in to the Poll Everywhere website. Open the activity you'll be presenting. Select "Visual settings" from the top of the page. Expand the Font section and set "Size" to "Largest". Then click "Done". Repeat steps 2-4 for all activities you'll be presenting. Present from Poll Everywhere Website If the options above are not viable, you could instead present your Poll Everywhere activities from the Poll Everywhere website. Click here to learn how.
