Overview: Teaching and Learning Services
Technology is a powerful tool for transforming learning. It can help affirm and advance relationships between educators and students, reinvent our approaches to learning and collaboration, shrink long-standing equity and accessibility gaps, and adapt learning experiences to meet the needs of all learners. At Des Moines University, we are exploring innovative approaches and tools that provide learner-centered classroom environments and empower personalization for our students. The Educational Technology team provides application support for teaching and learning tools and is available to assist with new educational technology tool selection and review. Course Assistants New Term Reminders
Audience: Course Assistants Purpose: There are important steps that must be taken before the start of each term to make the course experience less stressful for our faculty, course staff, and students. This checklist is intended to help course assistants double-check completion of key tasks within D2L, Panopto, and Zoom. Knowledge base articles with step-by-step instructions are also linked where relevant. If you have questions or encounter any issues along the way, please contact the Solutions Hub! D2L Course Setup – Copying Course Elements CAUTION: If you have a cross-listed course and are seeing multiple duplicate courses when you search in D2L, do NOT proceed with copying forward materials. Please contact the Solutions Hub as soon as possible so the extra sections can be deactivated. REMINDER: Click into the Respondus Dashboard after you copy quizzes into the course to activate the new version of the quiz in the course. Learn More. REMINDER: Click into the Panopto course folder in D2L after you copy forward your content to provision the Panopto folder for the new course. Learn More. Course Zoom Links For NEW course sections, create a new recurring Zoom Meeting link. Learn More. Provide or verify the Zoom link in the spreadsheet sent out by the Registrar’s office. Consider adding your Zoom link to the D2L course homepage for quick access. Set Panopto auto-routing settings for your Zoom link to ensure Zoom recordings are automatically routed to the course Panopto folder (must be completed by the Primary Host of the Zoom meeting). Learn More. Once course Zoom links are added to Coursedog by the Registrar’s office, they will populate for all Outlook events for the course section. This includes student, faculty, and cohort calendars, as well as room calendars for one-touch join. Learn More. CAUTION: If you need to share your recurring Zoom link for a class session (for example, with a guest lecturer), please send this link via an email message. Do NOT include this Zoom link in a separate Outlook calendar appointment. IN ADDITION, please do NOT edit any calendar appointments that are automatically added to your calendar via the Coursedog process. Forwarding an appointment, opening an appointment and selecting “Save”, and opening an appointment and selecting “Save & Close” are ALL examples of editing the appointment and should be avoided.
