Modified on: Mon, Jun 28 2021 4:40 PM

Overview

Playlists allow videos within your Panopto site to be presented in a single, ordered list even if those videos exist in different folders. When enabled, any user with Creator access to a folder will have the ability to create playlists in that folder.

Prerequisites
  • Creator access to Panopto
Note: The last step is very important to ensure all of the videos in your playlist are properly shared with your viewers. Please follow guide to the end.

1. Create A Playlist

1.1.  Click the Create button and then select Playlist (Fig. 1).

Create menu, expanded. On it, "Playlist" is highlighted by a red box.

4.2. Under People and groups, start typing the name of the person or group with whom you want to share the video. Based on the name or group you start typing, a suggested user list will appear for you to select the correct person or group from (Fig. 11a). Note: Underneath People and groups, you will notice information about whom the video is already shared with: the number of groups or people with access and where the video's permissions are inherited from.

Playlist Share Menu. On it, a name is being entered in textbox under "People and Groups" and a list of potential matches appears underneath.

4.3. Under Who can access this playlist, you can change the access permissions of the playlist by selecting Change and then selecting one of the following options (Figs. 12a and 12b).
  • Restricted: Share the video with specific people and groups as viewers.

  • Your Organization (unlisted): Anyone at your organization with whom you've shared the link.

4.4. You can also share using a link. If you have set Who can access this playlist to any option except Restricted, you can copy and share the link by selecting the Copy Link button that appears.  Link copied will appear at the bottom, indicating that you have successfully copied the link (Fig. 13). Optionally, select the checkbox next to Start at and add the timestamp at which you'd like the playlist to start when the audience opens the link provided.

4.5.  Using the guidance in step 4.3., above, set the sharing option to Anyone who has the link. The options for Facebook and Twitter will appear in color, rather than greyed out. Select either the Facebook or Twitter icon for the social media site you wish to share the video on (Fig. 14). Please note: If you wish to share the video on a different site, please copy and paste the direct link using step 4.4., above, instead.

Important last step!

4.6. If the playlist is shared more widely than the videos contained in it, some viewers may not be able to access all the videos. To give all the playlist viewers access to all the videos in the playlist, click on Access and click Synchronize Access (Fig. 15). Permissions for all videos that you have Creator access to will be synced. This will add anyone who has access to the playlist as a Viewer on the videos within the playlist.
