Overview: DMU Campus Portal
Des Moines University provides access to desktop and mobile applications to support teaching, learning, productivity, and research. We provide hardware and software support for DMU-issued devices and equipment, as well as limited support for personal devices, including laptops, mobile phones, and tablets. OFFICE 365 Office 365 is a cloud-based productivity suite that is available to DMU faculty, staff, and students. You can access all applications via your web browser or download apps to your device(s). Apps that are most commonly used at DMU are Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive, and SharePoint. Microsoft Teams are becoming powerful tools for communication within the DMU community. Each account has unlimited quota, works on any device, includes powerful mail search tools, and integrates with other Office 365 tools, such as OneDrive, Sharepoint, and OneNote. Access Office 365 Outlook Make an Outlook Request STUDENTS STUDENT DEVICES DMU students are required to bring their own device to support their educational activities. Students may purchase a device through DMU's preferred vendor at a discount or select another device that meets the published minimum specifications. Devices purchased through DMU's preferred vendor can be reviewed by DMU Solutions Hub staff and if repairs are needed, can be expedited to DMU's hardware vendor for repair. Minimum Specifications Purchase a Device from DMU's Preferred Vendor Support provided to all students includes: Maintaining the availability of the DMU wireless network, authentication systems and University-supplied applications required for learning activities. Troubleshooting connectivity or authentication issues on Personally Owned Computing Device (POCD) Configuration of POCD for communication with DMU Email system (Office365). Providing software application support for applications provided by DMU and required for learning activities on devices that meet minimum requirements. Providing limited software application support for other applications. Note: It is the responsibility of the device owner to have and provide authentic, individually owned and registered software before any assistance will be provided. Providing checkout laptops in the event of personal device failure. STUDENT EQUIPMENT CHECKOUTS Need to borrow a laptop? We have them available for checkout. If you would like assistance with downloading the software to your DMU-owned devices or your Personally Owned Device, please make a request by selecting an item below. Make an ExamSoft Request Make an Office 365 Request Make an Outlook Mobile App Request Make a Panopto Request Make a Zoom Request FACULTY/STAFF FACULTY/STAFF DEVICES Faculty and staff devices are replaced every four years for qualified individuals (FTE 50% or higher). The list of computer recipients is compiled each year based on the date of purchase. Recipients will be contacted by the ITS Solutions Hub to schedule replacement. Help is available through the DMU Solutions Hub should you have any issues with your device. FACULTY/STAFF WORKSPACES ITS will assist faculty and staff in adjusting monitors, docking station, etc. If you are moving offices or would like to purchase a sit/stand unit, please contact Facilities Management. How To: Clean Your Computer and Technology Peripherals
Cleaning Supplies Cleaning Wipes are available around campus in common areas. Oxivir wipes and Clorox non-bleach cleaning wipes can be used to clean your laptop keyboard and touch pad, and your workstation Keyboard and Mouse. Additional cleaning wipes can be requested by emailing FacilitiesManagement@dmu.edu. You can also request for cleaning wipes to be placed in specific community areas where they are not currently present. Wipes should not be sopping or dripping when used for cleaning computer equipment. Clorox Disinfecting wipes, or Oxivir TB wipes are recommended for use at shared workstations to help prevent the spread of germs. Be sure to follow the label directions for contact times to ensure surfaces are disinfected or sanitized. Clorox wipes - Sanitize time 10 seconds, Disinfect time 4 minutes. Oxivir Tb Wipes - Disinfect time 60 seconds. If you do not want use or are sensitive to chemical wipes, a good alternative is a microfiber cloth with a little warm water. The Solutions Hub has Microfiber towels available to borrow. Do not use general purpose cleaning wipes on your monitors, displays, or privacy screens as this can damage them. Special screen cleaning wipes are available from the Solutions Hub or you can use a microfiber cloth with a little warm water. Cleaning your Laptop Keyboard and Touchpad Shut Down your laptop. Ensure your cleaning wipe is not sopping or dripping. Clean across the laptop surface paying attention to any obvious dirt or stains. Follow the product instructions for disinfecting or sanitizing times. If needed, use a dry microfiber towel to clean up any excess moisture. It is ok to clean your laptop keyboard and touchpad as often as daily to help prevent the spread of germs. If you experience any wearing of keyboard letters or loss of functionality, contact the Solutions Hub. Cleaning your Workstation Keyboard and Mouse Disconnect your laptop from the docking station or shut down your desktop computer. Ensure your cleaning wipe is not sopping or dripping. Clean across the keyboard surface paying attention to any obvious dirt or stains. Clean your mouse, paying attention to areas where your fingers rest and any obvious dirt or stains. Follow the product instructions for disinfecting or sanitizing times. If needed, use a dry microfiber towel to clean up any excess moisture. It is ok to clean your workstation keyboard and mouse as often as daily to help prevent the spread of germs. If you experience any wearing of keyboard letters or loss of functionality, contact the Solutions Hub. Cleaning your Computer Monitors, Laptop Displays, and Privacy Screens Power off your monitor or shut down your laptop. If available use an air duster to blow away any loose dust or dirt that could scratch the display. Ensure your monitor cleaning wipe or microfiber towel is not sopping or dripping. *Do not use general purpose cleaning wipes for cleaning monitors or displays. Monitor specific cleaning wipes are available from the Solutions Hub. Gently clean across the monitor surface paying attention to any obvious dirt or stains. Cleaning too aggressively or applying too much pressure can scratch or damage the screen. If needed, use a dry microfiber towel to clean up any excess moisture. Monitors and Displays should only be cleaned when dirty. Cleaning too often can scratch or damage the screen. Cleaning your Laptop Chassis Surface, Vents, and Fan Shut down your laptop. If available use an air duster to blow away any loose dust or dirt from you laptop air vents. If your laptop fan has been constantly running or your laptop has been getting too hot, stop by the Solutions Hub to have the inside of your laptop cleaned. Ensure your cleaning wipe or microfiber towel is not sopping or dripping. Clean across the exterior surface paying attention to any obvious dirt, stains, or clogged vents. Follow the product instructions for disinfecting or sanitizing times. If needed, use a dry microfiber towel to clean up any excess moisture. It is ok to clean your laptop exterior as often as daily.
